Lot Essay

The sitter, daughter of François Rees and Katharina van Berge, married Jacob van Maerssen in 1660; after her husband died she remarried Samuel Beyer, pensionaris of the City of Rotterdam.

This is one of the earliest paintings by the artist, executed in Dordrecht shortly after his return from Amsterdam
