Lot Essay

A similar bowl illustrated by William Sorsby in South-East Asian and Early Chinese Export Ceramics, p. 68, pl. 110 where the author states "This is a variation of those enamelled wares beloved by Japanese disciples of the tea ceramony", also suggesting that this type of wares was decorated outside Jingdezhen, possibly in Dehua and drawing and colours are certainly similar to many 'Swatow' wares.
