Lot Essay

Conceived as a romantic plinth-supported altar of love, with Venus's billing doves surveyed by a pensive cherub, who reclines against a flower-festooned and veil-draped column. The rectangular bardiglio marble plinth is enriched with a trophy of cornucopiae-flanked enflamed hearts supported by cherubs emerging in the arabesque manner from flowered-acanthus scrolls.
