There is considerable uncertainty amongst scholars about the significance of the somewhat Western style buildings which are often visible by panels on 'kraak' blue and white of this type, in association with other more standard patterns derived from Chinese legend and influenced by wood-block prints, given the appearance of a whole new genre of meandering flower designs, it is at least possible that early Western visitors to the Far East were having a minor influence on ceramic design at Jingdezhen; they certainly were on contemporary ivory and blanc-de-chine models
