Cf. Joan Jones, Minton, The First Two Hundred Years of Design and Production, Shrewsbury 1993, p. 100 for a vase of this shape with a similar design. Minton produced a range of wares inspired by the styles and materials of the Middle and Far East, including cloisonné, bronze and ivory. Dr. Christopher Dresser, an admirer of the Japanese style, created several designs which were executed by Minton and were shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1867
