Lot Essay

The present lot would appear to be the earliest known dated work by the artist

Huis ten Bosch was built by Pieter Post with help from Jacob van Campen from 1645-1647 for Amelia van Solm as residence outside The Hague. The Oranjezaal, erected in 1647, was constructed and decorated as a mausoleum for her husband Frederik Hendrik who died in 16.. (see D.F. Slothouwer, De Paleizen van Frederik Hendrik, 1945)
