Lot Essay

Traditionally attributed to Salomon van Ruysdael, this is closely comparable to a drawing of the same subject and of similar size and technique sold in these Rooms, 25 November 1991, lot 29.
Beck (op.cit.) compares the present lot to Van Goyens's picture of the same subject dated 1640, but thinks this is not by the artist
