J.M. Lemmens has suggested this could be a view of the ruined Castle Ubbergen, pointing out the similarity to Albert Cuyp's picture in the National Gallery, London.
The present lot may be compared to a series of topographical drawings of Holland, England and Italy by the artist, all in comparable technique and of similar size, of which four are in the Rijksprentenkabinet (inv.nos.
