Lot Essay

J.M. Lemmens has suggested this could be a view of the ruined Castle Ubbergen, pointing out the similarity to Albert Cuyp's picture in the National Gallery, London.
The present lot may be compared to a series of topographical drawings of Holland, England and Italy by the artist, all in comparable technique and of similar size, of which four are in the Rijksprentenkabinet (inv.nos. A5546, 26:17, 48:406, 98:179) and one of which was sold in these Rooms, 14 November 1988, lot 118
