Lot Essay

(1) The artist lived on the Oude Gracht near the Bezembrug, depicted in the present drawing. Beyond the bridge are the Stadskraan and the weighing house 'Keijserrijk'. Haanebrink, who founded the Society 'Kunstliefde' together with J.B. Kobell, often reused figures in various works; the woman with a bucket and boy next to her also appear in a picture of the almost identical subject in the Centraal Museum, Utrecht (inv.no. 2508) dated to circa 1825-30.
A view of the Ganzemarkt by Cornelis Pronk is included in this sale as lot 380
