We are grateful to Hans Verbeek for his informations regarding the provenance of this lot. He has included it in his as yet unpublished catalogue raisonné (Gerret Battem, constrijck schilder (1636-1684), p. 64, no. Lg 10, to be illustrated).
Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly pointed out that the first provenance quoted seems doubtful because of the different size of the sheet ('11½:16d')
