A PARCEL-GILT TANKARD
marks indistinct, Germany, circa 1647

On plain domed and spreading base, the cylindrical body with two ribbon tied laurel wreaths, one centred with an officer of the cavalry, the other with two spears emerging from a pyramid of bricks, each joined together with clasping hands, and engraved "CONCORDIA DICORDIA, RES PARVAE CRESCUNT MAGNAE DILABUNTUR" on either side, "SALUS POPULI SUPREMA LEX ESTO" above, and "1647. 6. Augusti." below, the stepped and flat domed cover set with a coin, and with beaded split-scroll thumb-piece and plain scroll handle - 16.5cm high (560gr)
