Lot Essay

cf. Lieske Tibbe o.a. Jac. van den Bosch 1868-1948, Drents Museum Assen, 1987, pp. 140-143 for a description of Villa de Graaf in Oosterbeek and an illustration of the drawing-room with part of the furniture

In 1912 the artist was commissioned to design 'Villa de Graaf' in Oosterbeek by the chairman of the life-insurance company 'Vesta' Jan Everwijn de Graaf (1865-1928), who was a close friend of Van den Bosch. He also designed the furniture for this house. The villa as well as part of the original furniture were destroyed during World War II, and the present suite is all that survives
