Lot Essay

Compare with another self-portrait "De eter" which is part of a triptych. This triptych, consisting of three self-portraits which are titled, "De eter", "De Werker" and "The Medicijndrinker", is the property of the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Möller in Otterlo (now on loan to the Gemeentemuseum in Arnhem). See cat. Dick Ket, Gemeentemuseum Arnhem, Nijmegen 1988, pp.39-40(ill.): "These three small self-portraits are among the last that Dick Ket painted. Together they are a triptych, reflecting some of the inevitable situations from the painter's daily life. The titles speak for themselves."
