Lot Essay

The attribution to Dou is accepted by Professor W. Sumowski on the basis of a photograph; he will include it in his forthcoming volume Gemälde der Rembrandt Schüler Band VI Nachträge under no. 2245, where it will be illustrated in colour.
Both Professor P. Hecht and W. van de Watering also consider it to be authentic (verbal information), following examination of the original; they consider it to have been executed in the early 1630's.
Ronni Baer does not believe it to be authograph
