A DELFT DORE OCTAGONAL BUTTERDISH, COVER AND STAND, gilt and painted in colours after early Meissen porcelain examples painted in the manner of C.F. Herold with merchant scenes (Kauffahrteiszenen), the flared tub painted to the outside with two panels depicting various merchants beside barrels and bales at the seaside, alternating with suspended swags, with two small handles (one handle restuck), the cover en suite with wavy edge, painted with two panels en suite to the preceding, with seated dog finial, the stand with a central panel depicting a gentleman and his lady companion surrounded by tradesmen at a quayside, a large galleon and fortress to the background, the borders with scrolled band, the butterdish marked 17 to the inside, F to the outside, the cover marked 7, mid-18th Century, the stand 15.5 cm wide, the butterdish 10 cm wide (in large fitted étui)
