The second edition of the enlarged French text edition. The book gives a richly illustrated history of the Dutch East Indian Company, including the lives of all V.O.C. Governors-General from Pieter Both, appointed in 1609, up till Jacob Mossel, installed in 1752. At the end an interesting treatise on the present state of the V.O.C. and the means to redress the causes of its decadence, by the late Governor-General Baron d'Imhoff. Illustrated with many full-page plates of plants, fishes, mammals and birds, two maps of the trade-winds. See Landwehr's V.O.C. Bibliography p.266
