A drawing of the same subject of circa 1655-60 is in the De Grez Collection, Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts, Brussels, R.-A. d'Hulst, Jordaens Drawings, Brussels, 1974, II, no. A344, IV, fig. 361.
The present lot and the Brussels drawing may, according to d'Hulst, be related to the same painting. He does not rule out the possibility that both studies may be preliminary ideas for a picture of the same subject and period in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, although the composition of the painting differs from that of the drawing
