Lot Essay

The castle of Abcoude was first mentioned in 1080, and after being destroyed and reconstructed in 1328 became the property of the States of Utrecht in 1449. In 1719 they sold it to Theodorus de Leeuw, who had it restored. By 1820 it was ruined, and the castle was demolished in 1860
