Lot Essay

The technique of blue wash in this drawing recalls Wicart's work on porcelain. He is known through signed works to have been working as a painter of landscapes on porcelain in Loosdrecht, probably from 1777 to 1784. His work also influenced the decorations on Amstel porcelain. For further information on Wicart's porcelain painting see W.M. Zappey, A.L. den Blaauwen, A.W.A. van der Goes, A.C.
