The sitter was the son of Henry, 7th Baron Arundell of Wardour by Mary, daughter and eventual sole heir of Richard Bellings-Arundell of Lanherne, Cornwall. He married Mary Christina (d.1813), only daughter and heiress of Benedict Conquest of Irnham Hall, Co. Lincoln. He was succeeded by his cousin James Everard Arundell, in 1863.
