The present picture would appear to derive from the larger work, by J.F. Herring, Sen., showing more of the barn to the left, with a couple, ducks, pigeons and rabbits and a farmyard scene beyond (see O. Beckett, J.F. Herring and Sons, London, 1981, pl. 36).
