Lot Essay

Evidently painted in Rome, this was presumably commissioned for Henry, 8th Lord Arundell by Father Thorpe. Labruzzi executed a number of portraits of English sitters on the Grand Tour: his brother Carlo was employed by Sir Richard Colt Hoare, Tilson's prototype is lot 4 of this sale.
