The artist was awarded three gold medals by the Society of Arts: one in 1820 for an original painting of flowers; one in 1821 for an original painting of fruit; and a third in 1828 for an original painting of game. The first two medals are shown in the present picture, and all three are now in the Castle Museum, Norwich. The silver-gilt cup and cover is 16th Century German, and the silver plate is typical of English production in the 1820s.

The present picture is an early work by the artist, who married Joseph Stannard in 1826.
