Lot Essay

Lilian Stannard was the daughter of Henry Stannard (1844-1920) who founded the Bedford Academy of Arts in 1887. Like many of the Stannards her great love was flowers and this was to influence her subject matter for over forty years. She had many admirers including the Royal Family who bought a number of her works.
