A RECTANGULAR MARRIAGE CASKET "KNOTTEKISTJE"
no apparent marks, probably Frisian, circa 1720

Raised on four ball feet, the body and domed cover engraved with vignettes of courting couples reserved in auricular ornament, each surrounded with stylised flowers and foliage, the cover (missing swing handle) engraved "getrout tot inden doot" to the front and "Anno 1724 to the back, the body with grotesque mask thumb-piece - 7.7cm long (139gr)
