Lot Essay

Adriaan Wittert, Heer van Hoogland, Emiclaer and Schonauwen, married Theodora Cornelia Elisabeth Schade van Westrum, daughter of Arnold Franciscus Schade van Westrum and Catharina Maria de Wijs, in 1737 after the death of his first wife Maria Gerarda van Wedenbrugge.

The identity of the artist Boekhart remains unknown. It was Moes followed by Thieme Becker who thus attributed these portraits
