Lot Essay

Burger-Wegener (loc.cit) points out the absence of a middle ground, a feature in Lingelbach's style which may derive from the influence of early works by Philips Wouwerman, for instance that at Dulwich (see P. Murray, The Dulwich Picture Gallery, A Catalogue, 1980, pp. 141/142, no. 182, with ill.)
