Similar fittings have been found in Western Han tombs, as well as in nomadic tombs, and based on the shape of the loops on the reverse appear to have served as decorations on leather horse trappings. Compare the example in the Hellstrom Collection, illustrated by Karlgren, B.M.F.E.A., no.20, 1948, pl.43, no.3 and another in the Collection of Baron Eduard von der Heydt included in the exhibition of his collection, Vienna, 1936, Catalogue no.56
