Lot Essay

Visser made this smaller version of the two birds (Collection Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo) on special request of Mrs. T. Schröder-Schrader for her famous Schröder-house built by G. Rietveld

Blotkamp wrote about The two Birds: "This work was the high point and for the time being the last in a series of pieces which he did in 1953 and 1954 on the theme of mating birds. There are at least three versions, which differ only slightly from another. The shape of the birds is rudimentary" (Blotkamp, op.cit).
