The Carnival in Antwerp: Carnival Revellers standing beside the Scheldt outside the City Wall, skaters on the ice beyond

The original, on canvas, 57 x 100 cm, is in the Prado Museum. It was already recorded in Spanish collections in the mid 18th century (see M. Díaz Padrón, Museo del Prado Catálogo de Pinturas, I, Escuela Flemenca Siglo XVII, 1975, p. 15)

Another copy with the exact same dimensions as the present lot is in the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels (as after Sebastiaen Vrancx)
