Lot Essay

Prof. Dr Willem Hendrickz was an oculist and personal doctor to H.M. King William III of Holland.
The American artist Eastman Johnson came to Europe in 1849 and worked in Holland between 1851 and 1855. Prior to his return to America, in October 1855, he was requested to stay as a Royal painter to the Dutch court. Nevertheless Johnson refused.
