Dr. Sam Segal has confirmed the attribution comparing this drawing to that of a pomegranate branch and another species of Morpho butterflies in the Library of the Science Academy in St. Petersburg,
E. Ullmann, Leningrader Aquarelle, I, re-edition, Leipzig, 1974, no. 44, which was engraved for Merian's publication Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensis ..., Amsterdam, 1705, pl. IX. Another comparable drawing for that series is at Windsor Castle, Methamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensis, facsimile edition, London, 1980, pl. IX.
