Lot Essay
It is rare to find Dutch silver bearing the combination of marks as the above lot. The later inclussion of a standard mark, year letter and assay office mark from The Hague is unusual but occurs around the 1850s and may be found on Dutch objects made before 1814. This would be due to an alteration to the objects later in the Century. In the case of these bisuit boxes, one would assume that the owner brought the boxes back to the assay office for further verification after the addition of engraving was completed.
