A SILVER-MOUNTED WOOD DRESSING TABLE MIRROR
The Hague, maker's mark of Jan Willem Burgers (Voet 110), 1743

Cartouche shaped and with a strut support, the C-scroll mount with vacant rococo cartouche - 53cm high

Lot Essay

Note: This piece is an unusually early example of the Louis XV style in Dutch silver. For a similar but later mirror made in 1756 by the same maker see J.W. Frederiks, Dutch Silver, The Hague, 1958, part IV, no. 513, plate 250.
To quote the author: "A number of Burgers' works are extant. They are well proportioned and demonstrate the taste and skill of their maker. The execution is without exception excellent."
