A SILVER AND GILT-METAL ALTAR FRAGMENT
no apparent marks, perhaps Flanders, circa 1625

The rectangular gilt-metal frame of architectural design, cast with scrollwork and stylised ornament, the arched niche flanked with Ionic pillars side applied with the figures of the Evangelists John and Paul and surmounted with female figures above, the arch with foliate strapwork, fruit and winged cherub masks centred with a gilt-metal plaque cast with a reclined male figure, the central plaque cast with a scene of the Judgement, with Christ displaying Judgement to his left and Blessing to the right, further plaques above and beneath cast with strapwork, reclining figures, fruit and cherub masks, with suspension loop - 29cm high
