Ladage's watercolours are mainly in an abstract, angular expressionistic style. The three paintings now on sale are fine examples of this style. Herman Bieling, his colleague of De Branding, an association of artist living in Rotterdam (1917-1926), wrote: "Ladage was niet in het uiterlijk van de af te beelden persoon geïnteresseerd, maar alleen in zijn innerlijk, zijn 'subjectieve bewogenheid' (see H. Bieling, "G.J. Ladage (Gerlwh) 1878-1932", NRC Handelsblad, 5 January 1993). This occult approach is characteristic for most of the artists who joined De Branding
