Surmounted by a shallow fluted tazza, supported by three addorsed vestal caryatids, on a tripod base, the angles each carved with a Bacchic ram's head tied by a Vitruvian wave-scrolled ribbon, on a tapering and fluted triform foot, signed ERNESTO GALLI NAPOLI 1867, old damage to the nose of each figure
51½in. (130.8cm.) high; 21in. (53.3cm.) diameter of bowl

Lot Essay

The composition of this fountain relates closely to the tripod pedestals first manufactured by Eleanor Coade during the last quarter of the eighteenth century, after a design attributed to the celebrated architect James Wyatt.
