The latter four all painted for Conder's great patrons and friends, the Norwegian artist Frits Thaulow and his wife Alexandra, between 1895 and 1898, for their house in Dieppe, the villa des Orchides. The first hanging is thought to have been acquired by Thaulow from dealer Samuel Bing.
