Lot Essay

This type of craft, traditional in Dutch waters between approximately 1860-80, was unusual for having a double bottomed hull. By means of this hull it was possible to arrange for water to flow freely in and out of the open sluice gratings on either side of the hull and into the centrally located eel hatches, thus perserving the catch indefinitely.
