essay Entire affixed on reverse with the black circular essay reading "GENERAL POSTAGE/ONE PENNY/Not ex. half an ounce/1d.", cancelled by black "USED" and showing "DUNDEE/Oct. 7 39." alongside, the front of the entire is affixed with the red circular essay reading "GENERAL POSTAGE/ONE PENNY/Not exceeding/Half-an-ounce" but not cancelled and possibly unique thus, both essays have the word "Specimen" in manuscript alongside although gum remainders on the front of the entire suggest that both essays were originally affixed to the reverse; both essays cut-square with margins all round except for the one in red just clipped at right.
