Of scalloped cicular form, the centre depicting a view of Elagin Palace, the rim with gilt and blue strapwork rosettes and foliate ornament within gilt borders - 9 7/8in. (25.1cm.)

Lot Essay

The Elagin Palace was built by Carlo Rossi in 1818-1822 as St.Petersburg residence of the Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna. The palace is known by the name of the island which had been presented originally in 1770 by Catherine II to her courtier Elagin.
