A PAIR OF PORCELAIN DINNER PLATES FROM THE TSAR NICHOLAS I SERVICE
by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, period of Nicholas I

Shaped circular, the centre painted with the Order of St.Andrew within stylised undulating boldly gilt border, surrounded on cobalt blue border by the Orders of St. George, St. Vladimir, White Eagle, St.Stanislav, St. Alexander Nevsky and St. Anne on ivory ground within stylised gold rim 10¾in. (24.8cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

The plates were copied from the original service by Coalport, John Rose and Co, circa 1845 which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and exhibited at the Great Exibition in London in 1851. This service was presented to Nicholas I.
