Each with acanthus-cast, canted back plate headed by ribbons entwined with foliate branches and crossed Cupid's quiver of arrows and torch, above a standing Cupid on a beaded acanthus plinth issuing three scrolling, fluted acanthus branches with conforming drip-pans and nozzles, fitted for electricity

Lot Essay

These wall-lights are related to the set of six in the Salon Blanc of the duc de Brissac's Parisian hôtel, described in the inventory as trois paires de bras à enfants et carquois prisés deux cent quarante livres

Two virtually identical pairs of this model are recorded - one from the collection of Lady Baillie at Leeds Castle, Kent was sold at Sotheby's London, 13 February 1974, lot 124, while the other is discussed in Partridge, Exhibition Catalogue, 1990, no. 39

A set of four similar wall-lights from the Wrightsman Collection was sold anonymously at Christie's New York, 26 October 1994, lot 133
