Flattened cylindrical étui-à-cire, the four rectangular panels with incurved corners engine-turned with scattered pellets on a wavy ground, the borders applied with bands of gold beads, the cover chased with a green gold rosette of a flowerspray, the base engraved with the coat-of-arms of Marie de Buffevent -- 122 mm long, with fitted original shagreen case

Lot Essay

Marie-(Marthe)-Anne-Jeanne-Françoise, daughter of the Marquis de Buffevent, from a old family of Dauphiné mentioned since the year 1200, became Canoness of Neuville-les-Dames in 1773, then Abbess of Iles at Auxerre, and finally Abbess of Deshayes, Order of Cîteaux, Diocese of Grenoble.
