Rectangular casket resting on four scrolled ormolu feet, the shagreen covered body mounted in a gold cagework chased with scrolls and floral swags, the hinged cover applied with four pine-cones and set with an slightly convex enamel plaque depicting a déjeuner-sur-l'herbe in the manner of Lancret, the cover with mirror in the interior and opening to reveal implements including a bone aide-mémoire inscribed in French with the week-days (panel for "Dimanche" cracked), two green gilt cut-glass bottles with gold stoppers applied with enamelled birds, several instruments for sharpening plumes and later inset fountain pens -- 102 mm high
