King Augustus II of Poland, wearing a centre-parted powdered full-bottomed wig, an ermine-bordered blue velvet cloak attached with a jewelled clasp, and a silvered armour trimmed with scarlet; decorated with the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece, the sash and breast-star of the Royal Order of the White Eagle of Poland; enamel on copper, oval -- 45 mm high, gilt-metal frame

Lot Essay

Frederick Augustus (1696-1763), succeeded his father Augustus the Strong as Elector of Saxony in 1733, under the name of Frederick Augustus III, and was elected King of Poland as Augustus II. He married Archduchess Maria-Josepha of Habsburg, daughter of Joseph I, Holy Roman Emperor.
