Louis XIV (1638-1715), King of France 1643-1715, wearing a centre-parted powdered full-bottomed wig, a silvered armour trimmed with scarlet, and an embroidered white lace jabot, decorated with the sash of the Royal French Order of the Saint-Esprit; enamel on gold, oval -- 37 mm high, later gold mount with blue enamelled border, on a black bonbonnière (80 mm diam.)
