Lot Essay

The Infante Don Francisco de Paula (1794-1865), Duke of Cadiz, was the youngest son of Charles IV, King of Spain, and his wife Queen Maria-Luisa. A brother of King Ferdinand VII (see lot 110), he married his niece Princess Luisa Carlota of Bourbon-Naples in 1819. A group of miniatures representing the Infante with his wife and five of their eleven children was sold in our London rooms, sale of Spanish Art, part I, 28 May 1992.
