Lot Essay

Shimamura Shunmei (1853-1896) was born in Asakusa in Edo and specialized in wood and ivory carvings. His works were exhibited and won prizes at the Chicago World Fair of 1893 and the Domestic Industrial Exposition in Tokyo.
