The ribbed body with round panels containing a pine, bamboo and plum tree and landscapes on keyfret pattern beneath the rim with a band of geometric pattern, the foot with scrolling foliage, the interior with a band of continuous landscape, chocolate rim, signed Bo Go Shonzui fu (With longing for Go Shonzui style), Tokinken Eiraku, early 19th century

Lot Essay

Tokinken was one of the art names used by the well known Kyoto potter, Eiraku Hozen (1795-1854).

He was well versed in calligraphy, painting and poetry as well and had patronage of noble families such as Konoe and Takatsukasa. His technical mastery encompassed the areas of underglaze blue, kinrande, celadon as well as copying Korean, Chinese and South East Asian ceramics
